Instead of harsh treatments, Essence of Egypt routines incorporate products with ingredients that work with the skin’s natural processes, making them suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive skin.

What is Essence of Egypt Skincare?

Ess, short for Essence of Egypt, is a skincare philosophy that originated in our Glasgow clinic in 2008 and is now recognised for its innovative approach on minimalism, and emphasis on achieving healthy, glowing skin and overall health. Known for its focus on natural ingredients, Ess aims to balance the skin’s moisture levels and achieve a smooth, radiant complexion through gentle, effective products; and typically involves multiple steps designed to hydrate, protect, and nourish the skin.
One of the core principles of Ess skincare is prevention and hydration, focussing on long-term skin health rather than short-term results. Instead of harsh treatments, Ess routines incorporate products with ingredients that work with the skin’s natural processes, making it suitable for all skin types. And this is especially so in Ess Calm & Clean Facewash where we combine both the water and oil phases of the cleanser, to give the very best outcome to the customer.

What is Double Cleansing?
This method of cleaning the skin uses two phases combined in the double cleansing routine; which is a hallmark of Ess as it involves using two types of cleansers:

  • Oil Cleanser

Removes oil-based impurities (makeup, sunscreen, excess sebum).

  • Water-Based Cleanser

Washes away water-based impurities like sweat and dirt. This two-step process ensures that all impurities are removed from the skin, leaving it perfectly clean without stripping away its natural oils. It is particularly helpful for those with acne-prone, oily, or combination skin types, as it effectively clears out clogged pores while maintaining hydration.

Why choose combination Cleansing?

Oil cleansing has gained popularity due to its effectiveness and gentle approach. Unlike traditional foaming cleansers, oil cleansers work on the principle that “like dissolves like.” The oil in the cleanser binds with makeup and sebum, allowing them to be easily wiped away without stripping the skin of its natural oils. Moreover, oil cleansing can help balance the skin’s oil production, preventing the overproduction of sebum that can lead to breakouts.

Water cleansing begins with two important ingredients. First, it’s the clean Scottish water that helps boost your circulation, prevent acne, and reduce inflammation. To this we add a little Decyl Glucoside. The gentlest of all surfactants, it is obtained from 100% renewable vegetable origin.

This oil / water combination allows impurities such as dirt, debris, and bacteria to be tenderly removed, leaving the skin clean and refreshed. Just remember that drinking water throughout the day has benefits for the skin too. When you drink water, the cells throughout your body become hydrated through the bloodstream, and your skin, as your body’s largest organ, plays its part to, helping to flush out impurities and toxins at the cellular level.

What Natural Ingredients are good for Oil/Water Double Cleansing?

Natural ingredients are an important part of Ess skincare, especially in cleansing. Our natural ingredients include Jojoba Oil, and here are some of its benefits.

Affinity to Sebum: Jojoba organic oil is known for possessing a chemical profile that to a surprising degree is similar to the sebum naturally produced by human skin. This close likeness allows for easy inclusion.

Rich in Vitamin E: Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from both natural and biophysical damage, supporting overall skin health and a youthful appearance.
Versatile Moisturiser and Cleanser
: Jojoba effectively hydrates the skin, leaving it smooth and radiant, while its cleansing properties help control oil levels, making it suitable for various skin types.

Improves Skin Look and Feel: This oil helps maintain skin elasticity, smoothness, and a healthy glow, contributing to a more youthful and revitalised complexion.

Grapeseed oil is next on our list:
Certified Organic: Grapeseed oil is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, perfect for eco-conscious customers.

Moisture You Hardly Feel:  Grapeseed oil is lightweight and delicate. It works by moisturising even the most sensitive skin types, leaving the skin feeling soft and nourished, without any greasy residue. It absorbs quickly, leaving a velvety, sleek finish.

Cleansing while Softening: You can have it all. This gentle formula removes impurities without stripping away natural oils, leaving the skin feeling clean and refreshed.

Anti-Aging Antioxidants: As well as its cleansing properties, it contains antioxidants, where with regular use it helps diminish the look of fine lines, wrinkles, and pores; thereby promoting a brighter, smoother complexion.

And finally on our list of carrier oils is Argan oil.
As old as the hills: Descended from Stone Age tribes of North Africa, accounts of the Imazighen (Berber peoples) were first mentioned in Ancient Egyptian Writings from about 2000 BCE when they were cultivating and caring for the Argan oil trees. Perfectly adapted to the region’s harsh environment, with the ability to survive extreme heat (over 50 °C), drought and poor soil, Argan oil is packed with Antioxidants and Omega Oils that help to tone and repair the skin leaving it plumper and more youthful.

These days, we source it from Morocco, where it is often referred to as “liquid gold” due to its exceptional benefits for beauty and skin care.

Superhuman Power: Packed with antioxidants and essential fatty acids such as Oleic, Linoleic, Palmitic, and Stearic acids, Argan oil helps maintain skin’s softness, suppleness, and radiance. Regular use of this oil leaves the skin looking firmer, smoother, and visibly rejuvenated.

No nasty Ingredients: There is a great sadness for us to read in other facial cleansers that they include ingredients such as PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, PEG-10 Isostearate, Butylene Glycol (linked to cancer and endocrine disruption), and the jaw-dropping, lengthy word Polydiethyleneglycol Adipate/IPDI Copolymer. Made in China, this highly complex chemical component, is used in skincare products, including cleansers, for reasons that we cannot entirely understand.

Conclusion: Ess, Essence of Egypt skincare, particularly the practice of our combination oil / water cleansing, is more than just a trend—it’s a testament to the effectiveness and innovation of Ess beauty rituals. By embracing natural ingredients and this approach to skincare, Ess is setting new standards in achieving a clear, radiant complexion that will remain a staple in every woman’s pursuit the pursuit of healthy, beautiful skin.

By using both types (water and oil in combination) in Ess Calm & Clean Facial Cleanser, you will be able to deeply cleanse your skin and remove all types of pore-clogging impurities (water-soluble and oil-soluble) from your skin’s surface.

Of note: We often read that it will take two to three weeks for the skin to get adjusted to the process of facial cleansing, and to stop cleansing if you have skin irritation. Perhaps considering the ‘nasty ingredients’ noted above, you can understand the reason why. Rather at Ess skincare, we use a blend of natural and organic ingredients, none of which have lengthy, hard-to-understand chemical names.

Oil and water combination cleansing is one of the best, natural ways to purify your face without stripping off your skin’s natural oils. In basic terms, you can oil cleanse to replace the dirty oil with good oil on your skin by removing dead skin cells, any product buildup, and pollutants. In this, our advice is first, try to know your skin better. Be sure to cleanse only once a day, and in no time at all, we are certain you will appreciate the benefits of Ess Calm & Clean Face Wash. However, with very heavy make-up you may wish to do it twice.
